Mancal Coal Inc.'s qualifications for coal mining originates from
its ownership by F.P. Mannix and his experience and family history
in the coal industry. Mannix and its predecessor companies have a
coal mining history covering more than 60 years and played a leading
role in development of coal mining in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
From a
small stripping contract at Sheerness, Alberta in 1934, to
initiatives in the 1940’s which resulted in large scale coal mine
development for mine mouth power generation at Lake Wabamun, Alberta
and eventually resulted in contract mining agreements with Calgary
Power ( a predecessor to TransAlta Utilities) in 1957. These earlier
operations eventually led to more than 60 years of coal mining
experience.
Mannix
experience in Saskatchewan dates back to 1956, when it was awarded
the mining contract at the Utility mine by SPC to supply the
Boundary Dam Generation Station near Estevan, Saskatchewan. At the
time, it was the largest coal mining contract ever tendered in
Canadian history.
The Mannix
name, history, experience and reputation provide the key components
for building a new coal company.
Corporate
culture is retained through the continued employment of key
individuals with coal experience and the guidance of Board Members
whom also have extensive coal experience and history. A strong
capital base along with a successful history ensures that projects
can be financed on competitive terms.
